Privacy Policy
The short version: Tend works entirely on your device. We don't collect, receive, store or sell any personal data, and there are no accounts, analytics or crash reporters. Tend is free and shows small, non-personalised ads from Google on iPhone and iPad; Google's ad software processes limited data to deliver them, as described below.
Who we are
Tend is made by MacLeod Technologies Limited, a company registered in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). If you have a question about this policy, email contact@macleodtechnologies.org.
What Tend does with your information
Tend reads your device's battery level and charging state, its model, and on a Mac its battery health and charger details, so that it can give you advice for your exact device. All of this is processed on your device. Tend has no networking code for sending this information anywhere, and no copy of it ever reaches us.
Data stored on your device
- Charging history and preferences (such as your charge target) are kept in a single file in Tend's app container on your device. The file is protected by your device's data protection, excluded from iCloud backup and automatically pruned after 180 days.
- Widgets get only the latest reading (level, state and target) through a shared container on the same device, so they can show it.
- Deleting it: Settings › Delete all Tend data erases the history, the shared reading, pending notifications and any Live Activity. Deleting the app removes everything too.
Permissions Tend may ask for
- Notifications, to tell you when you reach your charge target. Optional.
- Home (HomeKit), only if you choose a smart plug for Tend to switch off. Tend stores just the chosen accessory's identifier, and switching happens on your home network.
- Mac only: Tend reads energy use, downloads and storage locally to show you which apps use power, what is downloading and what you can clean up. Optional Full Disk Access lets it see sizes inside protected folders. Nothing it sees leaves your Mac. Files are only ever moved to the Trash when you ask.
Advertising (iPhone and iPad)
Tend shows a small banner ad from Google AdMob at the end of some screens. Ads are never personalised: Tend doesn't ask for permission to track you, doesn't use your device's advertising identifier, and requests non-personalised ads only. In the UK, EU and other places where the law requires it, Google asks for your consent before any ad is shown, and you can change your choice at any time in Tend's Settings › Privacy choices.
To deliver, measure and protect ads against fraud, Google's ad software may process limited device and usage data, such as your approximate location from your IP address, device type, ad interactions and diagnostics. This data is not linked to your identity, is not used to track you across apps or websites, and is never your battery or charging information. Google handles it under Google's privacy policy for partner apps. The Apple Watch app, widgets, Live Activities, notifications and the Mac app show no ads.
What we don't do
- We (MacLeod Technologies) don't collect personal data, usage data, diagnostics or identifiers.
- We don't track you across apps or websites, and Tend doesn't use the advertising identifier or show personalised ads.
- We don't sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers.
- Your battery and charging data is never shared with anyone, including advertisers.
Apple services
When you download Tend from the App Store or use Siri and Shortcuts, Apple processes information under Apple's privacy policy. We don't receive that information.
This website
tenddevice.com uses no cookies, analytics or tracking, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security, for a short period.
Children
Tend is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct or delete. For data processed by Google to serve ads, see Google's privacy policy or change your choice in Settings › Privacy choices. You keep full control of the data on your device. If you live in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to a data protection authority such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes
If a future version of Tend changes how data is handled, for example an opt-in cloud backup, we will update this policy and the App Store privacy label before that version is released, and any such feature will be off by default.
